Shutdown Notice

10/10/2024

We regret to inform you that Cloudplane will be discontinuing its services by the end of the year. Customers should migrate their applications as soon as possible. Our timeline is as follows:

December 09 2024: All applications will be halted. Customers will have the ability to restart their applications through the console.

December 23 2024: All applications will be permanently deleted, exports will no longer be available. All other customer data will be deleted no later than January 31 2025.

Please note that data exports are free of charge, and instances that have been stopped will not incur any billing. However, file and database storage charges will apply until the application is deleted.

We wanted to simplify web application hosting and make it accessible to all. Unfortunately, we have been unable to achieve consistent growth, and our revenue is insufficient to sustain further development of the service. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by this decision.

How to Export Your Data#

To retrieve your application data, you'll need a S3-compatible bucket, which is a virtual storage drive accessible over the internet. For best performance, it's recommended to create a bucket with Scaleway in the fr-par region. Access credentials are obtained via IAM.

Next, create an Export Target in our console. This will enable you to generate exports for your applications. These exports contain a dump of your database (pg_dump format), the contents of any storage buckets and sometimes a JSON file containing base64-encoded configuration values.

The export is queued and can take between a few minutes to several hours to complete, depending on the size of your storage. We strongly advise testing the import of your application data before deleting the application, as deleted applications cannot be restored. You have the ability to turn off your application by clicking edit under resources and setting replicas to 0. This will ensure that the exported data is consistent.

Our exporter utilizes rclone to copy the files, and there have been instances where the process failed to complete. We will monitor exports and address any issues, please reach out to support if you experience problems.

Please note that we are unable to provide assistance with setting up your application elsewhere. We recommend reaching out to other managed hosts for assistance with importing your data. For Mastodon users considering Mast.host, see Migrating server to Masto.host.

Update: Several issues with the exporter have been corrected, it should work much better now. Please note that the configuration values in exported JSON files are base64-encoded and need to be run through a base64 decoder.
